My favorite gifts are practical and serve a purpose, and being in the Wellness field, I love to share things that make people feel good - INSIDE and OUT!!
This year I had the chance to try SO many new products, and it was tough to come up with a scaled down list, but here's a few things that were top of my list...these are things that I'll be including in my gift baskets:)
1. Beautycounter Countercontrol Clear Pore Cleanser: This daily face wash is something I originally bought for my 13 year old, but have ended up using myself! It's a gentle formula for oily and blemish prone skin, but also removes makeup and impurities at the end of the day. It gently clears out pores with tiny jojoba beads and the smell is DIVINE! It's a light citrus fragrance that I find energizing.
2. Microneedle Derma-roller: Can you say GAME-CHANGER?? I hesitate to share this one...for selfish reasons...you see, I've been doing cosmetic acupuncture for 15 yrs now and this is the 'at-home' version of a mini acupuncture session (although it doesn't go as deep). I have been using the 0.5mm one roughly once a week (although sometimes I go longer between sessions when life gets in the way). You first clean your skin thoroughly, then the tiny needles are rolled over the entire face (avoiding delicate eye area) in different directions. You do forehead, cheeks, lips and neck. It actually feels REALLY good, different than a massage but like you are waking up every cell - your face tingles, and you can see the blood flow improvement immediately (rosy cheeks etc). I do it until it starts to feel uncomfortable, and then I apply a serum. You wake up the next moring with glowing vibrant skin. This intense stimulation improves blood flow, collagen formation and even causes your body to increase the number of vessels that come to the face (which bring nutrients to the skin) - this all happens in response to the micro-trauma that the tiny needles create. Used regularly it also improves tightness. It'll be a staple in my anti-aging routine!
3. Purely Great STICK deodorant: I've been using this line for a few years now, but the paste version (cream deodorant that comes in a jar, in a variety of natural scents). My only complaint of the cream version was that it was a little messy (dipping fingers into a paste and applying the paste to the underarms). The stick version (which is NEW) solves this problem. If you haven't already made the switch to natural deodorant you absolutely should! Deodorants and anti-perspirants can be VERY toxic, and are readily absorbed into the lymph tissue that lies directly below the armpit. Natural deodorants are tricky, as what works for one person may not work for another. It's something that your body also needs to adjust to over time, so don't be surprised if you feel like you're more sweaty or smelly at the start! 4. SUPERIEUR Electrolytes: I've tried several brands and versions since embarking on a low carb lifestyle where there can be an initial increased loss of salts and minerals as excess water is shed from the body. Some are overly sweet, or overly synthetic in their ingredients. I like to know that i'm taking the bare minimum in terms of minerals, and this brand is extracted from sea water with the perfect amounts of sodium, potassium and magnesium, and only gently sweetened with stevia. I use both the citrus and watermelon flavors during intense training and long runs. I also give it to my kids at swim meets to prevent dehydration and fatigue. 70 servings per container means it lasts a LONG time! It also comes in individual pouches for on-the-go. 5. Designs for Health NRG Meal Bar: I know that gifting chocolate over the holidays is tradition, but why not give something chocolaty that's also GOOD for you and doesn't create high blood sugar?? I keep these bars at the front desk of the clinic for any hungry patients that need a quick snack. NRG Bar is a delicious chocolate flavored coated nutrition bar, featuring 20 grams of protein and 19 grams of fiber per bar, along with the energy-supportive nutrients, carnitine and CoQ10. This bar also contains prebiotic fiber and additional healthy fats from sunflower seed butter. It is an excellent between-meal snack or pre/post-workout nourishment, as it helps support energy levels and satiety. I find that when I eat with AND drink a large glass of water I feel super satisfied, and get at least 2-3 more hours before hunger strikes!
6. Beautycounter Overnight Resurfacing Peel: I can't say enough about this product. After having a set of 3 laser treatments about a year ago (for sun damage and discoloration) I maintained my results by using this product about 5 times a week (at night). It's a combination of 13 different acids that gently exfoliate, resurface and brighten your skin overnight. Contrary to what is sounds like, you don't actually 'peel' this off. It's a leave-on treatment, that can initially tingle, but something you quickly get used to. I find that the Hyaluronic acid sucks moisture INTO the skin, and in the morning I have glowing, moisturized skin. It also minimizes pores, fine lines and dark patches!
